In order to encourage the boys & the girls from Maharashtra to join the defence forces asofficers, the Government of Maharashtra has established Services Preparatory Institute (SPI) forBoys at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar & Services Preparatory Institute for Girls (GSPI) at Nashik.

About SPI:

  • On the recommendations of the committee formed under the chairmanship of Lt Gen SPP Thorat, (Retd), Kirti Chakra, Padmashree the unique Services Preparatory Institute was established at Aurangabad in 1977 with the aim of preparing boys academically, mentally and physically for entry into the National Defence Academy and other Defence Academies.
  • The Institute provides personalized coaching for UPSC (NDA) written entrance examination. The training and the curriculum at the SPI is formulated in such a way that, they are automatically prepared to appear before the Services Selection Board (SSB) interviews.

Domicile:

  • Domicile of Maharashtra as well as Bidar, Belgavi & Karwar districts of the state of Karnataka.

Age Criteria:

  • Born Between 02 January 2009 to 01 January 2012.

Educational Qualification:

  • Appearing for the class 10th Examination from the state board or equivalent board in 2026.
  • Should be eligible for admission to class 11th in June 2026.

Physical Standards:

  • Height : 157 cms
  • Weight : 43 Kg
  • Chest : 74 cm Expansion : minimum 5cm expansion.
  • Eye sight : 6/6 in a distant vision chart with better eye and 6/9 in worse eye. Myopia les that 2.5D and hypermetropia less than 3.5D including Astigmatism. A candidate must have good binocular vision. The colour vision standard will be CP-III for Army. Candidate should be able to recognized red and green colours Normal, without Color Blindness

Written Test:

  • A question paper with two parts : one Mathematics and another for General Ability Test (GAT) will be required to be solved in three hours. Each correct answer will be awarded with 1 mark. For every wrong answer 0.5 marks will be deducted.
  • The General Ability part will include questions on General English, General Science, Social Science, General Knowledge, Current Affairs and Intelligence test questions. Around 25 questions will be on General English which will include grammar, comprehension, error correction, synonym-antonym etc.
  • Both the parts will be set from syllabus of the State Board / CBSE up to the 10th class and no separate syllabus has been laid down.
  • The questions on GK and Current Affairs will be of elementary nature which a 10th class student is expected to be aware of.
  • Both the parts will be of Multiple Choice Questions Format, wherein, under each question, four suggested answers will be given. Candidate has to choose one which is most appropriate and fill it on OMR sheet provided.
  • The written test will be held in the month of April every year at Nagpur, Pune, Kolhapur and Aurangabad Center. Exact dates and place will be displayed on this website.
  • The results will not be declared at the examination center.
  • The results will be uploaded on the Institute’s website in the first week of May. The exact date will be intimated later.
  • The qualified candidates will also be informed individually through SMS/ e-mail about the interview program.

Interview:

  • The Candidates who qualify in the written test will be interviewed by the Interviewing Board/ Selection Committee.
  • Interviews will be conducted at Pune and Aurangabad.
  • The interview is based on General Intelligence, Personality Test and General Awareness of the candidate and knowledge of current affairs.
  • The interview is conducted in English and the candidates are expected to communicate in simple English.
  • Candidate should bring original copies of annual examination results of 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th (if already passed) class along with the certificates of other achievements at the time of interview.
  • Final merit list will be uploaded on the Institute’s website.
